  • A Win for ACHC Is a Win for Respiratory Patients

October 15, 2021

We’re always looking for opportunities to create services that add value for those on the front line of patient care. Last year, ACHC’s DMEPOS Accreditation Program launched a Distinction in Clinical Respiratory Patient Management, and we recently learned that the distinction has been recognized by HME Business as a winner in its 2021 New Product Awards.

The goal of the distinction is better clinical outcomes for patients with acute or chronic respiratory conditions that can be monitored and managed outside a hospital environment. Earning the distinction allows home/durable medical equipment organizations to offer healthcare facilities a validated, quality service that documents care and keeps patients at home. Standards emphasize a collaborative, team-based approach to assessment and ongoing treatment, disease management, and patient education. Data on the effects of patient education show a positive correlation with reduction in hospital readmission. The result? Improvement in activities of daily living, cost savings related to care, and enhanced quality of life.

DMEPOS suppliers with ACHC accreditation are eligible for the distinction, and hospitals should look for this recognition as they refer respiratory patients for HME. A strong home-based clinical respiratory program is a win for everyone.
