  • DMEPOS: Include All Personnel in Survey Preparation

August 10, 2023

DMEPOS suppliers often rely on only one person to be responsible for all accreditation survey preparations. This task usually falls to either the compliance officer, operations manager, or owner.

However, for the best outcome, Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) recommends that all personnel be involved in preparing for your survey and maintaining ongoing compliance with ACHC DMEPOS Accreditation Standards.

Proper preparation will enable your organization to recognize potential shortfalls and make adjustments before your survey.

Divide and Conquer

Involving all personnel in survey preparations empowers your team and leads to a smoother, more streamlined survey process.

Responsibility for ensuring compliance can be divided among personnel by assigning specific standards sections to select personnel. You can still designate one person to be in charge of overall survey preparation efforts, but it may be helpful to pair experienced personnel with areas familiar to them.

ACHC Standards are divided into seven sections:

  • Section 1: Organization and Administration
  • Section 2: Program/Service Operations
  • Section 3: Fiscal Management
  • Section 4: Human Resource Management
  • Section 5: Provision of Care and Record Management
  • Section 6: Quality Outcomes/Performance Improvement
  • Section 7: Risk Management: Infection and Safety Control

When reviewing standards for their assigned section, designated personnel can determine if policies, procedures, and processes are in place to show compliance with each standard and if they are being followed.

Checklist Available

ACHC’s Items Needed for Survey checklist can help you prepare further for your accreditation survey. Completing the checklist will enable your organization to locate policies and documents your surveyor will ask to see during your survey.

A copy of the checklist is available under “Resources” on your customer portal.

Prepare for Interviews

Throughout the survey process, your Surveyor will interview key personnel. Involving personnel in the preparation process can help solidify their understanding of your policies, procedures, and processes, keeping them better prepared to answer potential interview questions.

Conducting mock interviews or reviewing potential questions before your survey can help ease concerns.
